The Future is Bright for the Cavaliers

Cleveland sports can’t seem to catch a break.

Just as the Browns begin to show signs of life, the success of the Cavaliers begins to
wither away.

After losing LeBron James to the Los Angeles Lakers during free agency in 2018, the Cavaliers have struggled, and that’s an understatement. The Cavaliers will post two losing seasons in a row, after making it to the NBA Finals all four years prior, and are on pace to tally only 45 wins over the past two years (assuming the Cavs win 13 more games in the second half of this season). That’s a dismal winning percentage of just 27.4%, amounting to 45 wins in 162 games.

Despite the plethora of young talent on the roster, Cavalier fans are growing impatient. Simply put: they want wins, and they want them now. Losing seasons aren’t going to cut it, and if something doesn’t change
soon, the once-supportive Wine and Gold faithful might abandon their beloved team.

What can Cavs' fans look forward to, if anything? For starters, the team is very young, as previously mentioned. Starting guard Darius Garland and forward Kevin Porter Jr., as well as sixth man Colin Sexton, are all under the age of 22 (Porter being the youngest at 19
years old). These integral players still have years of growth to experience, and will no doubt become major contributors to the team, and big names in the league within a few years.

Also, head coach Jon Beilein is in his first year with the team, and like his players, is currently trying to make the jump from college basketball to the pros. The former coach of the Michigan Wolverines was hired this past off-season, most likely in the hopes his history of working with younger athletes (of which the Cavs have plenty) would help the team quickly evolve into a league powerhouse. But growth and
improvement take time, and patience is key for Cavaliers' fans, now more than ever.

In time, the Cavaliers will return to the NBA Finals, and will add Larry O'Brien trophies to their display case in Rocket Mortgage
Fieldhouse.

There is no doubt in my mind that the day will come. For now, let’s all be patient, and focus on the small things the Cavs are getting right, rather than wasting time being frustrated about what they’re doing
wrong.
